THE ANSON FILE
by Ray Sturtivant
The twin-engined Avro Anson was one of the main workhorses of the RAF
throughout the forties and early fifties. It served for many years as a
reliable trainer, being also used by Commonwealth air forces. Post-war, many
were converted for civil use in many countries, and the Avro XIX was a civil
development. This book gives comprehensive details with over 14,000 individual
entries.
The Avro Anson entered World War Two as a patrol bomber with Coastal Command
but it also played a vital
part as a twin-engined trainer both in the UK and with the Commonwealth Air
Training Scheme in Canada and
Australia. 11,020 were built in Britain and Canada and it saw widespread
service as a trainer and light transport
in a large number of air forces. Post-war many were converted to civilian use.
